Freshford Station Sign

Temporary removal of the old sign

The existing sign will be removed on Tuesday 8th February by GWR.

It will be protected and taken to the GWR workshop to ensure that the sign is engineered to be as exact a replica as possible.

The replacement sign is expected to be installed in the near future, and the posts will be cleaned and repainted.

The new sign will look exactly the same as the old sign and will last for many years – some even estimate over 100 years.

The Parish Council is looking to ensure that the old sign stays within the community in a public position to be enjoyed by everyone.

Background

It will not have passed by those who use the station that the current Freshford Station sign on the platform across the footbridge is deteriorating significantly and is in dire need of repair.

The advice from several independent sources is that the current sign cannot be restored.

GWR have offered to provide the significant majority of the costs for the provision of an exact replica enamel sign, the same size, the same font and using the same fittings. The cost to the community is a small donation from both the Parish Council and FLiSCA.
