The Conduct of Parish Councillors

Your Parish Councillors give their time and energy to try to make Freshford a better place to live.  They need to take decisions on behalf of the community but do so as normal residents with no particular skills or training.  Please understand and respect this in your dealings with councillors. Helpful suggestions and comments are encouraged and welcomed.

On election to the Parish Council, each councillor makes the following written and witnessed Declaration of Acceptance of Office. “I, [Name], having been elected to the office of Councillor of Freshford Parish Council declare that I take that office upon myself, and will duly and faithfully fulfil the duties of it according to the best of my judgement and ability.’

Councillors elected to serve on Freshford Parish Council undertake to abide by the Nolan principles of public service. The principles are:

  • Selflessness
  • Integrity
  • Honesty
  • Openness
  • Accountability
  • Objectivity
  • Leadership

Code of Conduct

The Parish Council has agreed to adopt the Code of Conduct introduced by Bath and North East Somerset Council. Parish Councillors are subject to this Code of Conduct.
