PESTS IN THE VEGETABLE GARDEN

KATE COLLYNS

Freshford Village Hall
Wednesday 12th November 2025 7.30pm.

Kate Collyns set up Hartley Farm in Winsley following a two-year Soil Association Horticultural Apprenticeship.  Salads, herbs, vegetables, flowers and soft fruit are grown following organic standards and Grown Green is a member of the Wholesome Food Association (WFA). She is the author of ‘Gardening for Profit: From Home Plot to Market Garden’ and will bring copies of her book, some salad bags and pumpkins to sell.

It’s really important to take a moment to note and celebrate when things are going well – or at least, better than last year! The 2024 season was a very challenging growing year: wet and cold start, wet and cold middle, wet wet end, with the result that yields in many crops were down significantly – and that was last year!

Growers have also had a tricky time this year for the exact opposite reason (lack of water, too much drying sun).  Kate will give us some guidance on how to control the pests in our vegetables the organic way.
